The
current Southwest Seattle Weed
& Seed site was awarded
official recognition status
in July 2003. “Weeding”
and “seeding” updates
and the coordination of other
Weed & Seed activities takes
place at monthly meetings of
the White Center-South Delridge
Community Safety Coalition.
One of the primary goals of
Southwest Weed & Seed is
to reduce violent crime and
nuisance activity at “hotspot”
areas jointly identified by
the community and police. Since
the Southwest W&S target
area overlays jurisdictional
boundaries between City of Seattle
and unincorporated King County,
a joint jurisdictional task
force has been created as a
vehicle for Seattle Police and
King County Sheriff’s
officers to work together on
enforcement efforts, community
policing and, together with
the community, on problem solving.
Southwest Weed and Seed prevention,
intervention and treatment strategies
have been greatly enhanced by
partnership with the Drug
Free Communities (DFC) program
in 2004.
