East African Immigrant Support
Seattle Neighborhood Group has a long history of providing public safety help to Seattle's immigrant community. This grew from community based crime prevention support in public housing to a specific effort to work with East Africans who live throughout the metropolitan Seattle area.

Much of the work that Michael Neguse, the SNG East African Program Coordinator does with this diverse community centers on educating immigrants on how to stay safe, use public services like 911 Emergency calling, learn the customs and norms of their new culture, and become engaged in their neighborhoods.
A special area the program focuses on is supporting East African youth in community participation, and educating parents about youth activities and gang-awareness.
Helping bring people together to communicate and collaborate with one another is important in the East African community, and is often achieved with success through community-wide celebrations. These large, festive events bring all generations and ethnic groups together to share information, share food, and of course, share music and dance - keep an eye on our SNG events calendar for the next celebration!
