ROLE OF THE EAST PRECINCT CRIME PREVENTION
COALITION
The East
Precinct Crime Prevention Coalition
(EPCPC) is an incorporated non-profit
community organization which strives
to promote partnerships among residents,
schools, businesses/ merchants, the
Seattle Police Department, social
service and government agencies to
effectively address public safety
issues.
EPCPC works to address
community concerns in the Seattle
Central and Capitol Hill neighborhoods
with particular emphasis on "hot
spot" neighborhoods. Here are
some of the council's activities:
• Holds monthly
meetings open to the public designed
to promote understanding of Community,
law enforcement and criminal justice
issues
• Supports increased police
interactions on the streets
• Support neighborhood graffiti
clean-ups
• Monitors and impacts local/state
policies regarding relevant quality-of-life
issues
• Reduction of crime through
enhanced block and business watch
efforts
• Works to further community/police
partnerships
• Co-sponsors local crime prevention
education efforts.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The
East Precinct
GOTS (Get Off the Streets) project
received funding for a pilot project
for the 2000 Block of East Madison
in June. The vision is to reduce crime
by providing services to those creating
low-level crime problems in the neighborhood.
Drop-in visitors were referred to
numerous services, including treatment,
dental care, health care, employment,
etc. At the end of 2006, 41 clients
had been placed in housing and 43
assessed for chemical dependency treatment.
