In 1992 the Central Seattle Weed & Seed area was one of the first sites
in the country to be recognized
as a Weed and Seed site. For
sustainability, in the "Weed"
component of the Weed &
Seed philosophy, Central Seattle
Weed & Seed has merged effectively
with the East Precinct Crime
Prevention Coalition to provide
overall guidance and direction
for implementing policing initiatives
that fit with the Weed &
Seed Strategy.
2006 was the final year of
funding for Central Weed and
Seed. We have received “Graduated
Site” status for the Central
site. We continue to participate
in the Seattle Weed and Seed
Steering Committee. The implementation
of the Weed and Seed strategies
has fostered partnerships and
collaborations to improve the
safety of the Central/Broadway
neighborhoods. Weed and Seed
updates and the coordination
of other community building
activities take place at the
monthly meeting of the East
Precinct Crime Prevention Coalition,
which is held the fourth Thursday
of the month.
